Not to be outdone by other big tournaments around the world, the North American-based Major League Gaming (MLG) formally announced a US$9,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive event sponsored by Steelseries. Furthermore, a second one on one ladder was also revealed with a modest US$1,000 in prizes.
Initially known as a console-loving event when if first started, MLG has been gradually hosting Starcraft 2 and League of Legends LAN tournament across Uncle Sam's homeland. These two PC Games along with the console game Soul Calibur V are featured in MLG's Pro Circuit. Note that CS:GO will not be included in the aforementioned Pro Circuit, but it has potential to be one.
Valve's latest iteration of the FPS classic is continuously being updated, and the die-hard old-school CS players are slowly coming around---evidenced by the number of 1.6 legends returning to the scene just to have a go at GO. Now with MLG having a 5 on 5 online tournament in the works, and the last time I checked there are about 189 teams already registered, the game will only become more popular.
