In their first international competition outside of their native South Korea, Azubu Blaze bested 3 other teams to win MLG’s first League of Legends Summer Arena.
The event started last August 3, and ended up with the Korean powerhouse winning the prize pot of US $10,000. With such a big cash prize and with only four teams participating in the LoL Summer Arena, the event was filled with comebacks, outrageous-never-before-seen strategies courtesy of Azubu Blaze, and an anti-climactic performance from Black which had a dismal 0-9 record.
The best of five finals between Azubu Blaze and Team SoloMid, an early favorite, was a shut-out with a 2-0 score but it was a close fight. It was an excellent matchup, filled with memorable clashes and a game 2 that had to be played again as the internet failed on MLG’s facilities. In the end though, the Koreans owned all three western teams and many experts have crowned them as possibly the strongest League of Legends team in the world.
