Why would anyone play Starcraft 2, probably the game which wears down the mouse and keyboard the most, with a dang joystick? Well Shoruyuken.com recently held a contest that had an improbable goal of designing an arcade stick with the aforementioned game in mind. Lo and behold, someone was able to beat the insane task and won the prize of US$1,000.00.
Mauricio Romano, who probably had a lot of time in his hands, managed to rip an Ultrastick joystick and shoved a network of Sanwa buttons into his Frankenstein monster-like creation. To be fair, it was not hideous, it looked like your high-end joystick with too many buttons on it. The key was that he was able to make the PC recognize it as a keyboard, with USB plug and play compatibility. One problem that might arise from using this is that it has no ability to type letters, so you can't GG with it. BM.
Coincidentally, Joystiq spotted Mauricio Romano's labor of love and posted this video:
Seeing this is a custom job, interested SC2 joystick nuts will not be able to buy this creation in your regular shops. But if you are crazy enough to want one, challenge yourself and build your own with the help of Romano's detailed instructions.
