A shoulder injury has sidelined legendary Starcraft Terran extraordinaire Lim “BoxeR” Yo-Hwan since May 1, and since Blizzard has been delaying the release of Heart of the Swarm, the SlayerS founder has been contemplating changing races.
BoxeR has long been an iconic figure in the e-sports and Korean gaming community since the days of Starcraft: Broodwar. His domination during the rise of the game has been the stuff of legends, and it earned him the title of “Terran Emperor”.
As the now predictable Blizzard delays will push the release of the expansion pack Heart of the Swarm to sometime next year, BoxeR finds himself sidelined indefinitely also. In an interview with Gamespot, he was asked if his unfortunate inactivity will somehow diminish his skill and gaming sense, BoxeR replied:
“The release of Heart of the Swarm would make the game completely new again, having everyone start from the beginning. Plus, having a convenient interface in Starcraft 2, I am not so worried about it,” BoxeR said. “Unlike Starcraft 1, which had almost no updated patches at all, Starcraft II is divided into three games and multiple patches, which gives less pressure.”
But Starcraft 2’s upcoming expansion may not be favorable to Terran players out there, as it will be focusing more on Zerg and Protoss. This development may have displeased BoxeR; his days of playing as a Terran during the Starcraft: Broodwars and Starcraft 2 is not going to be a viable anymore. The Terran Emperor is now probably thinking of abdicating his crown to become a Zerg or a Protoss, a very unfamiliar situation for him.
“It seems like things are continuously getting worse for Terran. I might switch to either Protoss or Zerg,” BoxeR said. When asked if he was serious in switching races, he said, “actually I am half joking and half serious, but there is no law requiring me to play only Terran forever. I think that being able to embrace other races easily is the one of the pros of Starcraft II.”
