Hailed as a boy gaming genius, Karl Matthew Baldovino aka "Santino", has been making huge waves at the Filipino DotA scene ever since he crashed into the professional gaming arena. Signed by Pacific Revitalize, a newly formed DotA team, the 13-year-old -boy-wonder talks about his recent success in a recent interview.
The interview was conducted by Pacific E-sports, wherein they asked him about his decision in entering the professional gaming scene, his role in the new team, and his plans in the future.
"Actually, nobody taught me how to play the game, I only learned by watching other people on computer shops play.”
Santino revealed that before, he was constantly being pressured by his parents about his gaming activities; however, according to him, this changed when he started earning money from the gaming endeavours. He added that he was now able to contribute greatly in their household’s finances due to his gaming prowess. He also said that what started only as a hobby eventually became a career for him. Undeniably, the boy has great talent and skill in gaming.
"I have no secrets.... I like what I do and I enjoy it - you will surely excel if you bring that with lots of practice and hardwork.”
Nevertheless, Santino said that he owes his recent successes to his team, wherein they focused on coordinated team-play and dedicated practice. He reiterated that individual skills are only half of the formula – what’s needed is great teamwork in order to win.
"DotA is a game of teamplay, you help each other throughout the game. Nobody would be as powerful without the help of each other."
Towards the end of the interview, Santino was asked about his future plans. He replied with concrete goals in mind – undeniably, one would notice that this boy is highly determined to achieve his set goal.
“I want to be known internationally... playing internationally and that I'll be recognized by my idol, YaphetS.”
“To all DotA players who want to be capable, aim high.”
Team Revitalize is scheduled to play in the upcoming Gigabyte E-Sport Tournament: International DotA Cup 2012 (GEST), this March.
